Los Angeles, CA, September 29, 2018 – The Celiac Disease Foundation is pleased to be accepted as an affiliate member of the Association of European Coeliac Societies (AOECS). Founded in 1988, the AOECS is an independent, non-profit umbrella of national celiac societies who seek to collaborate worldwide. AOECS is actively involved in international initiatives to raise awareness of celiac disease and to promote research into the diagnosis and management of the disease. Members work together for the best possible safety, availability, and labeling of gluten-free foods and products, to foster multi-national research projects on celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity, exchange information, and share skills and knowledge, particularly with new and developing national celiac societies.
Chief Executive Officer, Marilyn G. Geller, presented the Celiac Disease Foundation’s application at the 2018 AOECS General Assembly meeting held in Budapest, Hungary. Geller remarks, “The AOECS has long advanced—in principle and through multiple initiatives—the rights of people with celiac disease to timely diagnosis and treatment, and to a safe food supply. The United States of America believes there is strength in numbers. Today, we join AOECS to promote one global organization to collaborate on strategies to ensure the needs of people with celiac disease are met.”
